Guest Activity of the Month: Chasing Sunrise, One Volcano at a Time- Mount Batur Sunrise Trek
21 August 2026
Here's a secret about August in Bali: it's the "cold" season (tropically speaking think light jacket weather, not actual cold), and that chill comes with a serious upside. The skies clear right up, which makes this one of the best months all year to catch sunrise from the top of a volcano.
Enter the Mount Batur Sunrise Trek one of our most-booked excursions, and for good reason.
You'll start well before dawn, headlamp on, hiking up Bali's active volcano to a summit sitting at 1,717 metres. The climb takes about an hour and a half to two hours enough of a workout to earn what's waiting at the top. And in August, with that clearer tropical-cold air, the payoff is even better than usual.
From the summit, you'll watch the sun rise over the vast caldera and the still waters of Lake Batur, with Mount Abang sitting just across the crater and Mount Agung's silhouette rising beyond it on the horizon. Genuinely mesmerizing, and one of those views photos never quite do justice to. On a clear morning (which August tends to deliver), you might even catch Mount Rinjani on Lombok, far off in the distance.
You don't need to be a hardcore hiker for this one just an early riser with decent shoes and an appetite for something memorable.
