Traditional Balinese Textiles
Like most parts of the Indonesian archipelago, Bali has several traditional textiles that are exclusive to the island. Endek is the most widely produced cloth that uses a single ikat technique whereby the pattern is made by resist-dying the threads of the warp or weft. Another more elaborate textile is songket, which is embellished with gold threads as a symbol of privilege. These cloths are worn for auspicious occasions and passage of rite ceremonies such tooth filings and weddings.
The village of Sidemen located at the foothills of the sacred Mount Agung is famous for its handcrafted textiles. There are several workshops in the area and some women still weave at home using old-fashioned contraptions. Authentic endek and songket textiles are not cheap and local buyers appreciate the amount of work that has gone into creating each piece.
Anyone interested in visiting Sidemen to learn more about this artistic heritage can contact our Guest Service Assistant at the Lobby to make the necessary arrangements. A private tour is a great opportunity to explore rural Bali and perhaps bring home a special treasure or two.

Tumpek Landep
Tumpek Landep on 2nd September 2017 pays homage to metal heirlooms such as the traditional daggers that were once part of Bali’s warrior past. These weapons are cleaned and blessed with offerings and a sprinkle of holy water. Nowadays, cars and motorbikes are also decorated and blessed by the Hindu community.
Bali Zoo
A park where you can participate in fascinating animal adventure activities, some of which are unique experiences of their kind in Indonesia.Whether it's up close and personal feeding encounter with a Bengal tiger; an elephant safari atop the friendly Sumatran pachyderms, dining mere meters from king of the jungle and his pride, or participating in Bali Zoo's trademark Mahout for a Day.
Taxi Appretiation Day
On an island where the public transportation sector is still relatively underdeveloped, Bali’s taxi drivers play an important role in serving the needs of visitors in a safe and convenient manner. In fact, they are true ambassadors for the tourism industry and help maintain the island’s image as a popular travel destination. To show gratitude for these unsung heroes, Amadea once again held its Taxi Appreciation Day. This inspiring initiative is a highly-anticipated event that is now conducted every year in conjunction with Indonesian Independence Day.
On 16th August 2017, a small group of staff members from various departments took to the street to hand out free lunch boxes to taxi drivers and freelance transport drivers operating on JalanKayuAya. “All of the drivers in this immediate area support the resort by providing transport services for our guests. We are grateful to be surrounded by good people who care about Seminyak and this is our way of saying thank you for the work they do,” said RestyKaningsih, Sales Manager at Amadea Resort and Villas.
