Bali For Romance

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there is simply no limit to the things that couples can do together to celebrate their love whilst on the island of Bali. We have compiled a list of romantic pastimes to share and make this special day even more memorable.
  • A candlelight dinner under the stars in a private villa is the ultimate indulgence. Wine and dine the evening away in true tropical style as each course is served by a personal waiter.
  • Sharing a revitalizing spa ritual brings couples together, especially when it includes a leisurely soak in a warm bath infused with scented oil and exotic flower blossoms.
  • Travel to the cultural village of Ubud to savour a picnic luncheon for two amidst the serenity of a secret garden setting.
  • Take a day out to Lembongan Island which is famous for nice beaches with various water sport activity, snorkeling and other in land activities.
  • Learn about Balinese cuisine with an interactive cooking class that requires cooperation in the kitchen. Master the art of preparing a basic spice paste, which is essential to all local dishes.
  • Embark on an adventure tour and experience the soul of Bali. Cycle through a traditional village, ride an elephant along a jungle path or navigate white water rapids with a fun-filled rafting excursion.

Bali's Cultural Calendar : Tumpek Wayang

An auspicious day coming up on Bali's cultural calendar is Tumpek Wayang that falls on 24th February 2018. This special occasion pays tribute to the shadow puppets that have both religious and social significance here on the island. A small purification ceremony is performed to bless each puppet, believed to have its own distinct character and possess magical powers that can bring an ordinary performance to life. The puppeteer will also pray during this ritual seeking artistic guidance for future shows.

Puppets, known as ‘wayang kulit’ in Bali, are used to conduct a unique form of theatre employing a transparent screen to project light and shadow. Performances re-enact adaptations of classic Hindu tales or cover local events filled with elements of humour and messages of morality. Puppet shows performed at night are purely for entertainment purposes and during the day they are held in conjunction with more important religious ceremonies. Oka Kartini in Ubud hosts weekly shadow puppet performances for the benefit of travellers. Visit our Guest Service Assistant for further information.

To coincide with Christmas and New Year celebrations, a number of socially-inspired activities took place during the month of January with a special emphasis on giving back to the Balinese community. On December 19, 2017 staff members paid a visit to the Putra “William Booth” Orphanage in Denpasar to spend quality time with a group of underprivileged children. Our team organized fun games as well as an uplifting session to share , dreams, hopes and aspirations for the future. A significant donation was also made to help with the operational costs of running this facility that provides a nurturing home environment for local youngsters in need.
