Bali Visual Art: Discover Bali with a Museum Visit
Although Seminyak is generally known for its laid-back vibe, trendy shops and great dining venues, there is also a more serious side to Bali involving its rich cultural heritage. There are a number of museums and galleries open to the public that delve into the island’s art and history. The Bali Museum in central Denpasar is spread across several buildings and pavilions with fine examples of local architecture. The collection here ranges from prehistoric pieces to traditional artefacts, ceremonial objects and textiles.
A number of art-related museums are also located in and around Ubud. Puri Lukisan Museum is home to the finest collection of modern traditional Balinese paintings and wood carvings on the island dating from the 1930’s. Similarly, the Neka Art Museum documents the development of Balinese themed paintings by local and foreign artists.
Visit our Guest Service Assistant in the Lobby for a full list of museums and hours of operation. We’ll be delighted to create a tailored museum tour based on your personal preferences.

Amadea's Water Bottle Refill Station
Amadea estimates that on an average day more than 200 bottles of water are served to in-house guests. This adds up to 6,000 bottles a month or 72,000 bottles a year and these numbers are really quite alarming. Although we go to great lengths to separate all waste at the resort and send these bottles to be recycled, we decided that we needed to take our concerns one step further.
As a result, two years Amadea launched an innovative Water Bottle Refill Station in an effort to reduce the consumption of plastic waste. Guests are encouraged to refill their water bottles completely free of charge as often as needed. There has been a positive response to this initiative and we have seen a significant drop up to 30% in the number of plastic water bottles used in a month. When you stay with us feel free to use this facility. Together we can all do our bit to help save the planet for the benefit of future generations.
Bali's Cultural Calendar - Tumpek Wayang
An auspicious day coming up on Bali’s cultural calendar is Tumpek Wayang that falls on 29th July 2017. This special occasion pays tribute to the shadow puppets that have both religious and social significance here on the island. A small purification ceremony is performed to bless each puppet, believed to have its own distinct character and possess magical powers that can bring an ordinary performance to life. The puppeteer will also pray during this ritual seeking artistic guidance for future shows.
Puppets, known as ‘wayang kulit’ in Bali, are used to conduct a unique form of theatre employing a transparent screen to project light and shadow. Performances re-enact adaptations of classic Hindu tales or cover local events filled with elements of humour and messages of morality. Puppet shows performed at night are purely for entertainment purposes and during the day they are held in conjunction with more important religious ceremonies. Oka Kartini in Ubud hosts weekly shadow puppet performances for the benefit of travellers. Visit our Guest Service Assistant for further information.

Amadea 6th Anniversary Celebration
To coincide with Amadea’s 6th anniversary celebrations, a number of socially-inspired activities took place during the month of May and June with a special emphasis on giving back to the Balinese community and to develop stronger team bound.
Staff Outing
At Amadea Resort & Villas, we believe in the mantra that a happy team contributes to happy guests. Therefore, our Annual Staff Outing was conducted over two consecutive days on May 26 and 27 to ensure that every employee had a chance to participate. This year we decided to get team building activities, initiative games and problem solving exercises at the Sila’s Agro Tourism in the cool and mountainous Bedugul area.
Amadea Cares Sponsored Cleft Operation
Amadea Cares is our Corporate Social Responsibility program that focuses on giving back to local people in need. Not everyone on the island is fortunate enough to benefit from Bali’s lucrative tourism industry or have access to quality healthcare. Therefore, we have taken it upon ourselves to help some of the most vulnerable members of the community. Amongst other things, we have made it our main mission to fund craniofacial surgeries and restore quality of life to young children from impoverished families.
On May 23 essential surgeries were performed for a young children requiring urgent medical assistance under this program. Gede Suyasa (4 months olds) both recently received brand new smiles after undergoing procedures to correct cleft palate deformities. These little boys now have the opportunity to grow up without affliction and later become productive members of society.
Orphanage Visit
On May 5 staff members paid a visit to the Dharma Jati Orphanage in Klungkung Regency. And on June 20 we also visit the Yappa Orphanage in Denpasar to share the Joy of Ramadhan, the holy month for Moslem community.
In both visit we spend quality time with a group of underprivileged children. Our team organized fun games as well as an uplifting session to share personal dreams, hopes and aspirations for the future. A significant donation was also made to help with the operational costs of running the facility that provides a nurturing home environment for local youngsters in need.
6th Anniversary Celebration
June 1st, 2017 marked the sixth year of Amadea Resort & Villas with a Tumpengan ritual, a Indonesian tradition in celebrating special days, highlighted with yellow rice cone and all yummy condiments. It is humble celebration combined with staff gathering with foods and drinks served at the beautiful setting of Villa Pandu, our four bedroom villa.
