Welcome to the July 2012 Edition of the Amadea Resort and Villas Newsletter | July 2012 Connect With Us

Warm greetings from Bali – the island of the Gods!

Welcome to the July edition of our online newsletter. It is filled with interesting information about what is currently going on at Amadea Resort & Villas located in the heart of Seminyak, Bali’s favorite tourism quarter.

The island of Bali is always at its very best during the summer months of July through until September. Humidity is low and there is a refreshing breeze to cool things down. Australian travelers are now out in force due to affordable airline tickets and the number of flights available on a daily basis. We recently recorded our highest ever occupancy levels this June with an average of 90% per day. This is just another indication that although Amadea is a relatively new property, it is well liked by guests and for that we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support.

In lieu of the high season, we have some great offers on at the moment including a value-added accommodation package with spa benefits. Bistro Batu Kali is also serving up a collection of thirst-quenching cocktails this August as well as a tasty three-course set menu for a special price that won’t break your holiday budget.

Bali’s ongoing cultural calendar continues with Galungan Day on 29th August 2012, which is an auspicious time for followers of the Hindu faith to return home to their ancestral villages. It is a joyous celebration that involves ceremonies with elaborate offerings, family reunions and feasts of traditional food.

In this edition we take a look at the city of Surabaya, a bustling metropolis in East Java. We also announce the two lucky winners of our quarterly draw. Both will receive a terrific prize for their participation.

Happy reading and we hope to see you in Bali very soon.

Cultural Calendar

Cultural Calendar

Hari Raya Lebaran

Although the island of Bali is predominantly a Hindu enclave, it is also part of the Indonesian archipelago and therefore extremely tolerant of other ethnic beliefs and religious orientations. Followers of the Islamic faith are currently observing the holy month of Ramadhan whereby they fast between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Hari Raya Lebaran on 19th August 2012 celebrates the end of the fasting month and is an opportunity for members of the Muslim community to return home and gather with their family and neighbours. It is a time to pray and seek forgiveness for past wrongdoings followed by a feast of traditional dishes.

Galungan Day Celebrations

Bali’s Hindu community will celebrate Galungan Day on 29th August 2012, which occurs every 210 days on the local calendar system. It is essentially a time of worship to commemorate the victory of righteousness against evil. Most Balinese will return home to their ancestral villages around the island to pray and partake in a series of ceremonial rituals and rites. Elaborate offerings bearing fruit and flowers are prepared to appease the Gods and the spirits of defied ancestors.

While Galungan Day is considered an auspicious date on the Balinese cultural calendar, the island’s tourism industry remains virtually unaffected by this public holiday. All hotels, restaurants and shopping outlets will remain fully operational unless stated otherwise

Beyond Bali - Surabaya

Beyond Bali - Surabaya

Surabaya – Gateway to East Java

The bustling city of Surabaya is a 45-minute flight from Bali and serves as a business hub for East Java. It is Indonesia’s second largest city and has a busy harbor that supports the nation’s thriving import and export trade. Surabaya offers great shopping opportunities and is also the ideal base to explore other parts of the province.

Magnificent sunrises can be experienced at Mount Bromo, which has become an iconic
tourism destination that attracts visitors from around the world. Alternatively, the scenic
town of Malang is just a 2-hour drive from Surabaya and is elevated above sea level to provide a welcome relief from the heat. It is known for its old buildings that have been preserved as a tribute to the Dutch colonial era. Other sites of interest include the agriculturally-rich area of Batu to reconnect with nature’s precious bounty. Three days is sufficient to explore Surabaya and its surrounds.

Surabaya Plaza Hotel, our sister property, is located in the heart of Surabaya and accommodates both business and leisure travelers. It is the first non-smoking hotel in the city, which makes it the best choice for families and health conscious guests. If you are interested in visiting Surabaya, please visit http://www.sby.pphotels.com as your gateway to East Java.
