Welcome to the July 2013 Edition of Amadea Resort & Villas Newsletter | July 2013 Connect With Us

Warm greetings from Bali – the island of the Gods!
Welcome to the latest edition of our online newsletter. Read on for all our news, events and special promotions that we hope will bring you back to Amadea Resort & Villas in the happening hotspot of Seminyak.

There will be lots going on in Bali this August and it is still the holiday season for many of our international friends. We have Idul Fitri coming up on the cultural calendar to mark the end of the holy fasting month. Followers of Islam will return home to their extended families in Java and other parts of the archipelago to celebrate this time of togetherness with feasts of traditional food and new outfits.

Indonesian Independence Day on 17th August commemorates the nation’s 68th year of freedom following centuries of Dutch colonial rule. Festivities will include early morning flag ceremonies at schools and government offices to show national pride. Local community leaders will also organize fun games and activities in the spirit of this national holiday.

The first instalment of our Kamasan Style Painting Exhibition was a huge success and we hope to reignite interest this unique Balinese art form. The event enjoyed plenty of local press coverage and we have committed to hosting it again at the same time next year.

In this edition we share details about our latest award. We also encourage you to book early and make the most of our Early Bird promotion for the very best deals to stay this August onwards. There’s information about Indonesia’s very own Komodo dragon, which is a throwback to the age of dinosaurs. Visit them in their natural habitat with an island adventure or play it safe and see them at the Bali Safari & Marine Park.

Happy reading and see you soon in Bali.

Free Internet Essential For Today's Modern Travellers

Free Internet Essential For Today's Modern Travellers

A recent survey conducted by a leading international hospitality chain revealed that 61% of its guests feel that internet is the most important additional facility in a hotel room. Apparently accessing the internet is the first thing that 31% of all guests do as soon as they reach their hotel room. These figures prove that in today’s high-tech era it is essential to stay connected even when on holiday.

While it is still common practice for many hotels in Bali to charge for internet access, Amadea Resort & Villas is proud to say that this service has been completely free of charge for all in-house guests since October last year. Internet coverage is available through WiFi as well as LAN. At the time the decision to provide complimentary internet seemed extravagant but now it appears that we were completely forward-thinking in anticipating the needs of our guests.

Free internet enables travellers to stay in constant contact with loved ones back home through SKYPE and other social media platforms. Urgent business decisions can be made with relative ease even whilst sipping cocktails by the pool. Food lovers can research where to eat each night or read the forums about what to see and do in Bali. Amadea understands that internet access is just one of many services that contribute to a great holiday.

Kamasan Painting Exhibition

Kamasan Painting Exhibition

Amadea Resort & Spa recently hosted the first instalment of its Kamasan Classic Style Painting Exhibition in an effort to help preserve the tradition of this ancient form of Balinese artistry. It ran from 5th to 18th July 2013 and showcased the works of Putu Eka Hendra Jaya, a young artist who is still at school. The response to the exhibition was overwhelming and it attracted the attention of in-house guests and members of the public. The local media also picked up the story and Putu’s Kamasan art was in the news featuring in printed and online publications.

A particular highlight during the exhibition was a ‘Meet the Artist’ program that took place every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. A work space was set up for Putu and visitors had the opportunity to see just how much detail goes into creating a Kamasan painting.

Our own staff eagerly participated in the preparation and execution of the exhibition. They were keen to help generate awareness about Kamasan and prevent this unique style from becoming obsolete. Amadea Resort & Villas is now committed to helping local artists preserve the Kamasan cultural legacy. As a result, Amadea Cares will be sponsoring Putu by paying his school fees for the coming year and encouraging him to spend more time painting. The second instalment of this exhibition will take place next July. Stay tuned for further updates by following us on our facebook page (AmadeaBali) or our twitter account (@AmadeaBali).

Komodo Dragon Adventure

Komodo Dragon Adventure

Venture beyond the island of Bali and see some of the other wonders that the magnificent Indonesian archipelago has to offer. The Komodo dragon is the world’s largest living species of lizard that can grow to up to 3 metres long. They are found in their natural habitat on a handful of Indonesian islands including Komodo, Rinca and Flores.

These creatures are predators and can eat a whopping 80 per cent of their body weight in a single feeding. They use their sharp claws and shark-like teeth to eviscerate wild animals and even humans. The Komodo dragon also has bacteria-infused saliva that can also be used to poison prey. They are considered an endangered species and protected under Indonesian law. The Komodo National Park was founded to aid preservation efforts and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hollywood actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, recently posted on her personal blog that all her dreams came true this May when she visited Komodo Island to see these pre-historic looking creatures. You too can experience the famed Komodo dragons with a packaged tour that explores the east part of Indonesia. Daily flights are available to Flores and then a guided boat trip will take you to the Komodo National Park.

If you are keen to see some Komodo dragons but don’t want to go out of your comfort zone, you can also visit the Bali Safari & Marine Park. It is home to hundreds of animals including rare and endangered species such as the Komodo dragon, Sumatran elephant and Sumatran tiger. Simply come to Amadea’s Front Desk and we’ll arrange discounted tickets for a great day out that the entire family will enjoy.
