Warm greetings from Bali – the island of the Gods!
We are delighted to present the latest edition of our online news letter designed to let you know exactly what is going on at Amadea Resort & Villas. From the vibrant playground of Seminyak, we bring you news and special promotions that will hopefully draw you back to the island of Bali in the near future.
Bali is hot and humid at the moment and the seasonal rains have all but finished. The island is still a hive of activity as things move into overdrive in preparation for several major events taking place this year including Miss World 2013 and the APEC CEO Summit. The new-look airport is nearing completion, so too is a major toll road to ease traffic congestion.
This edition happens to coincide with Galungan, which is a major holiday on Bali’s cultural calendar. It is a three-day religious festival whereby the island’s Hindu community celebrate with elaborate offerings, traditional food and social gatherings. The Balinese make an effort to return home to their ancestral villages to reunite with loved ones and pray in the family temple. Symbolically, Galungan marks the universal struggle for righteousness in a world filled with temptation.
With Easter almost upon us, we take a look at the unique Balinese art of egg painting. There is also information about exploring the island with a classic Volkswagen tour. We share details about our newly launched ‘Spa & Shopping’ promo and take a look at our ‘back of the house’ staff party.
Happy reading and see you soon in Bali.

The Unique Art of Balinese Egg Painting
Easter weekend is fast approaching and we would like to wish our readers all the very best for this family holiday. In Christianity, decorated eggs are an important symbol of Easter to honour the precious gift of life. However, chocolate eggs in the western world have also become a favourite part of this annual celebration.
On the island of Bali, eggs are used as a medium to paint upon. Egg painting is a traditional form of local artistry that requires great skill and precision. An experienced artist can create an item of great beauty with a few hours of gentle brush work. Egg painting in Bali formally depicted scenes from ancient Hindu mythology and the island’s cultural heritage. However, tourism has given egg painting a new lease of life. Modern designs such as animals, birds and exotic flora are popular amongst travellers.
Historically, egg painting is a timeless art form that is an expression of struggle. The egg is a universal source of life protected only by a delicate shell. The process of painting the shell is a reflection of human creativity and the splendour that we can bring into our fragile existence.
Painted eggs are sold at art shops specializing in classic forms of Balinese artistry such as wood carvings, masks and instruments. They make unique souvenirs and are easy to carry home providing that they are wrapped properly. Local artists primarily paint on chicken, duck and goose eggs but wooden eggs are also available for longer-lasting mementos of Bali.

Annual Staff Party & Employee of the Year Award
Amadea Resort & Villas hosted its annual staff party on 28th February 2013at a local pub. It was an enjoyable evening themed ‘One Night in Egypt’ with lucky draws and special prizes. Each department put on a special performance to showcase ‘after-hours’ talents, which included fun song and dance routines. The party was an opportunity for everyone to relax and strengthen in-house friendships in a social setting away from the work environment.
Management also took time during this event to announce its inaugural of Employee of the Year 2012 Award. Congratulations went out to Guest Service Assistant, Ms. Suci Artini, who was selected because of her outstanding performance throughout the year. Suci is well-liked by guests as well as her team mates for her positive attitude.
She is fully committed to Amadea’s vision to be Seminyak’s leading resort where genuine, happy people work hard to ensure great guest experiences.
Suci will go on to represent Amadea Resort & Villas in the upcoming Employee of the Year contest for Prime Plaza Hotels & Resorts group throughout Indonesia. We wish Suci all the best and hope that she does us all proud!
