A Surgery for a Brahmana Girl in Gianyar, Paid for by Guests at Amadea Resort in Seminyak

 

Amadea and Yayasan Senyum Bali sponsor an operation for Ida Ayu Adiwina.

Ida Ayu Adiwina had her operation at Ari Canti Hospital in Gianyar this month, sponsored by Amadea in partnership with Yayasan Senyum Bali. Her father, Ida Bagus Wisnu, works as a private employee; her mother runs the household. The surgery their daughter needed had been beyond their reach.

Her name is worth noticing. In Bali, a name announces where a family stands in the traditional social order, and Ida Ayu and Ida Bagus are titles of the Brahmana the highest of the island's four castes, historically its priests and scholars. What a name does not announce is income. Standing and means are two different things here, and the gap between them is where families quietly fall.

"Although Bali gains significant financial benefits from tourism, these benefits are not equally distributed. Many families in rural areas of the island do not experience the same opportunities," says Wayan Warta, General Manager of Amadea Resort and Villas. "At Amadea, we strive to support those in need and bring smiles to their faces through donations from our generous guests and dedicated staff, together with our valued partnership with Yayasan Senyum Bali."

Hers is the thirtieth operation the programme has funded since it began in February 2012, and the twenty-sixth child it has helped. Every one of those operations was paid for by guests staying at the resort and by the people who work here an ongoing commitment to the community around Amadea, and to a culture of care, compassion and social responsibility.

Her father put it more directly. "I hope my daughter can have the brightest future possible. Thank you for this meaningful assistance. It has truly changed our lives."
